The DINNER

(A Documentary Installation)

THE DINNER

Multimedia Installation (video, photography series, archives)

The Dinner is a fictional Art video where I imagine another faith for Arab Jews, through seven female characters who have decided to re-enter exile and free Judaism from its forced territoriality.

Having worked for more than a decade on Arab Jews, specifically in Egypt and Morocco, I chose to base this video (characters, costumes, Jewels) and scenography on documented information. By working closely with both collectors and local artisans, I chose to fictionalize from a researched and plural reality.

The Art installation is organized around the Art Video of the same name. Two documentary videos compose a video triptych. One is a journey on the historic and forgotten locations of the Jewish cult in Egypt and Morocco; the second is an invitation to meet with the last Jewish women who never left.

Having lived in Cairo, Egypt for years and researched in Morocco during close to four years, I have filmed hours of intimate moments and discussions with women who are the trace of a time where Jews and Arabs lived in peace, welcomed in countries that became a refuge from persecutions.
